NLNG’s Train 7 Ushers in a New Era of Human Empowerment and National Talent Building
By:Momentous Magazine
A new chapter in Nigeria’s industrial transformation opened in Port Harcourt as 331 young Nigerians graduated from the NLNG Train 7 Human Capital Development Programme—an initiative now widely recognised as one of the nation’s strongest investments in people, skills, and future opportunities.
At the ceremony, NLNG’s General Manager for External Relations and Sustainable Development, Dr. Sophia Horsfall, reaffirmed the company’s philosophy:
“Human capital is the most valuable capital. This investment is about empowering individuals to uplift communities and shape Nigeria’s future.”
A Workforce Built for Tomorrow
The Train 7 Project—Nigeria’s landmark gas expansion—has become equally known for the workforce pipeline it is cultivating. From over 800 applicants screened through the NCDMB system, 331 candidates emerged, receiving training across engineering, ICT, fabrication, marine operations, HSE, quality management, and non-destructive testing.
Project Director Ali Uwais described the programme as a “sustainable talent engine” that will serve generations, while NCDMB’s Executive Secretary, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, hailed it as a model for transforming Nigerian youths into globally competitive professionals.
Training on a Live LNG Plant – A Rare Empowerment Opportunity
For 12 months, participants trained directly on a live LNG facility—an experience few countries can offer. Beyond technical instruction, trainees received certifications, laptops, welfare support, and hands-on mentorship from experienced engineers.
A Boost for Industry, A Lifeline for Youths
The ripple effect extends far beyond the classroom. Train 7 has already generated over 10,000 jobs, strengthened local fabrication capacity, and triggered major Nigerian Content achievements—such as the establishment of a 10,000-ton galvanising plant now supporting multiple industries nationwide.
A Legacy Rooted in People
From vocational development to shipyard expansion, community skill centres, and scholarships, NLNG continues to position Nigerian youths at the heart of national growth.
For the graduates of Train 7, the empowerment is both personal and national. “You have been prepared to compete, to innovate, and to lead,” Dr. Horsfall told them. “Use your skills to uplift your communities and drive change.”
As the Train 7 project advances, its greatest impact may not just be increased LNG output—it may be the empowered workforce now rising to build Nigeria’s industrial future.
