By Yemi Akintunde
Nigeria, Ogun State – The Olota of Ota Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Prof.) Adeyemi AbdulKabir Obalanlege, Lanlege Eku II, has commended the National Association of Seadogs, Pyrates Confraternity, for its humanitarian interventions while condemning criminal activities carried out by some groups in the name of confraternity.
The monarch gave the commendation during a courtesy visit by members of NAS-PC, Ash Montana and Blizzard Decks, to the Olota’s palace in Ota, Ogun State.
The visit was ahead of the association’s proposed Medical Mission scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, aimed at informing the monarch of the programme while seeking his approval to use the palace grounds as the venue and to receive royal blessings.
Oba Obalanlege said the palace remained open to organisations with genuine intentions to contribute positively to society, describing the Pyrates Confraternity as an organisation that had demonstrated responsibility, integrity, and respect over the years.
He, however, decried the activities of certain groups and individuals who perpetrate violence and other crimes under the guise of confraternity, urging the National Association of Seadogs to intensify public sensitisation against violence and criminality.
The monarch expressed appreciation for the association’s sustained humanitarian efforts and assured the delegation of the palace’s support for its laudable initiatives.
Speaking on behalf of the association, the Area Mate, Area 2, Mr. Ayodele Adebesin, thanked the monarch for the warm reception and outlined the objectives and background of the National Association of Seadogs.
He described NAS-PC as a not-for-profit, non-political and non-religious organisation founded in 1952 and committed to humanitarian service, social justice and the promotion of a just and egalitarian society.
Adebesin added that the association which has a consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) had exited tertiary institutions since 1984 noting that it did not operate in any institution of learning.
He explained that membership of the association was restricted to graduates with a minimum of a first degree and possession of a National Youth Service Corps, NYSC discharge or exemption certificate.
According to him, the association is embarking on the medical mission to provide basic eye tests, distribute reading glasses and eye drops, as well as sponsor cataract surgeries for indigent residents of the Sango-Ota axis of Ogun State.
He said the outreach, which will receive technical support from the Eye Foundation Centre was scheduled to hold on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
