The ancient town of Shasha in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State is set to come alive as the Shasha Youths Forum, Santos Zone, presents the much-anticipated Shasha Day 2025, a four-day cultural and community celebration scheduled to hold from December 11 to 14, 2025.

The event, designed to promote unity, peace, cultural identity and youth engagement across the Shasha axis, will be headlined by legendary Fuji music icon Alhaji Sule Alao Malaika (Alayelua, Qibla of Fuji), whose performance is expected to draw a massive crowd from within and outside Lagos.

ROYAL BACKING AND COMMUNITY PURPOSE

Shasha Day 2025 enjoys the full royal blessing and support of His Royal Majesty, Alayeluwa Oba Babatunde Akanbi Nasiru Lawal Ogunronbi Ariwajoye Akinlowo I, the revered Oba of Shasha Kingdom, whose leadership has continued to shape peace, unity and development within the community.

Speaking during an interaction with journalists, the monarch formally introduced himself, reaffirming his commitment to the progress of Shasha and its people.

“My name is Oba Babatunde Akanbi Nasiru Lawal Ogunronbi Ariwajoye Akinlowo the First, Oba of Shasha Kingdom in Alimosho Local Government,” he stated.

SHASHA DAY AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO BANNED CARNIVALS

Explaining the motivation behind Shasha Day, Oba Ogunronbi noted that the initiative was conceived following the government ban on carnivals, which he said often degenerate into disorder.

According to him, Shasha comprises over 32 villages, and allowing separate celebrations could threaten unity and security. Shasha Day, therefore, serves as a central platform to bring everyone together under proper monitoring for the collective progress of the community.

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT AND COMMUNITY IMPACT

The monarch emphasized his active role in youth counseling, empowerment and welfare, noting that his palace remains open to youths seeking guidance.

He revealed that the 2025 celebration marks the second edition of Shasha Day, with the first successfully held in 2014.

SECURITY AND PEACE IN SHASHA

Assessing the crime rate, Oba Ogunronbi acknowledged that while challenges exist, Shasha remains relatively peaceful due to the presence of security agencies including the Nigerian Air Force and police formations.

TRADITION, CULTURE AND HERITAGE

A strong advocate of Yoruba traditional values, the monarch described himself as a core traditionalist who respects all religions but firmly believes in indigenous spiritual practices. He disclosed that the Elegbara Festival was recently held on December 8 and 9, further reinforcing the cultural identity of the kingdom.

TRADITIONAL LEADERSHIP AND MODERN GOVERNANCE

Oba Ogunronbi stated that modern governance recognizes the importance of traditional institutions, despite existing regulations.

MESSAGE TO NATIONAL LEADERSHIP

Commenting on national issues, the monarch expressed confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership and offered prayers for peace, wisdom and stability in Shasha, Lagos State and Nigeria at large.

CONCLUSION

As preparations intensify, Shasha Day 2025 stands as a celebration of unity, cultural pride and visionary traditional leadership, positioning Shasha as a beacon of communal harmony in Lagos State.
