FCT BAN ON SCAVENGERS: NSCDC FCT COMMAND ARRESTS 37 SUSPECTS.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command has arrested Thirty seven (37) suspects following the ban on their activities in the FCT by the minister of FCT Bar. Nyesom Wike.

 

Parading the suspects at the FCT command headquarters, the FCT Commandant Olusola Odumosu PhD, expressed his resolution to ensure that the ban is enforced to the last .

 

The arrests according to him was in compliance with the enforcement of new policies of government of regulating the pantaker markets and the out right ban on scavenging in the FCT.

 

Commandant Odumosu, disclosed that these scavengers are dangerous elements that must be flushed out of the FCT if crime in the FCT must be abated

” we have realized that their real business is to vandalize and remove our road infrastructure , they rob innocent commuters and bystanders as they go about with dangerous weapons to attack and dispose them of their personal belongings especially at night” .

 

He reiterated that the activities of scavengers otherwise known as Baban bola have been banned in the city centre and the suburbs both during the day and at night .

 

“They have been restricted to the various dump sites where all the household refuse they wander around for are deposited by the waste management authority”.

 

Commandant Odumosu, advised the public to dispose their refuse properly and stop patronizing Baban bola for their own safety and those of their family members.

 

He charged them to always give relevant information about any suspicious movements or activities of these criminal scavengers to the appropriate authorities .

 

” it is imperative that citizens and residents join hands with the corps and other security agencies to flush out these dangerous elements in the FCT by chasing scavengers away when ever you see them”.

 

Commandant Odumosu disclosed that the the following exhibits were recovered from them

i. Four (4) daggers

ii. Three (3) jack knives

iii. Two (2) chisels

iv Three (3) knives

v. Two (2) pinches

vi. Ten (10) bottles of codeine syrup

vii. Forty five (45) wraps of Indian herms

viii. Thrash bags

viii pieces of iron rods

x. Narcotic drugs.

 

He said that the suspects are currently being investigated and profiled noting that due diligence will be followed in their prosecution.
