Kosofe Local Government Area has rolled out a landmark ₦100 million Empowerment Scheme aimed at improving livelihoods and accelerating grassroots economic development for 1,000 residents across the council.
The initiative was officially launched by the Executive Chairman, Barr. Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe, who described the programme as a bold step toward enhancing inclusive growth and ensuring that every resident has access to meaningful economic support.

According to the chairman, the scheme is structured into four strategic phases, each worth ₦25 million, carefully designed to target diverse groups within the community—including artisans, traders, widows, youths, and the general public. He emphasized that these categories were selected to ensure equitable distribution of resources and maximum community impact.

Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, Barr. Ogunlewe noted that the initiative represents “a defining moment in our collective journey towards inclusive prosperity,” reaffirming his administration’s commitment to empowering residents and expanding economic opportunities at the grassroots level.

Since assuming office in July 2021, the Ogunlewe-led administration has embarked on a series of developmental projects across the seven wards of Kosofe LGA. Notable achievements include:

Construction of 42 roads across various communities
Installation of eight transformers to improve electricity supply
Provision of 10 solar-powered boreholes for clean water access
Free shuttle bus services to ease transportation for residents
Completion of a 10-classroom storey building at Mosafejo Nursery and Primary School
Monthly Food Bank programme benefiting over 5,000 households
Free GCE and JAMB registration for more than 6,000 students

Barr. Ogunlewe attributed the success of these interventions to the supportive policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, noting that improved federal and state allocations have strengthened local government capacity for impactful project delivery.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the chairman urged them to utilize the funds responsibly to grow their businesses, create employment opportunities, and contribute to the sustainable development of Kosofe.

He expressed optimism that the empowerment scheme will stimulate local enterprise, increase productivity, and enhance the overall quality of life across the LGA—making Kosofe a model for community-centered governance in Lagos State.
