WHY ALAAGO, AN ALLEGED RITUAL KILLER MAY REGAIN FREEDOM

By Wale Abyden/LAGOS// The Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution, Mrs Olayinka Adeyemi has issued a legal advice suggesting that a prima farce case of murder has not been established against a Lagos Spiritualist, Prophetess Evelyn Owoleke of Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Bayo Ajao Street Aboru area of Lagos.
Owoleke was accused by Olaloye Jolayemi of Ologundudu Street Aboru who had complained to the Policemen at Oke Odo Police Station alleging that the spiritual mother killed her daughter, Seun Olorunto who died after she was delivered of a baby boy by the Prophetess at her Church.
It was widely reported then that the homicide detectives visited the scene and found Seun Olorunto lying in the pool of her blood, suggesting that she might have bled to death due to complications.
DSP Bala Elkana, the police spokesman while confirming the case to newsmen said “that the corpse was removed from the Church to General Hospital Yaba for autopsy”.
The police said that the infant was also taken to hospital for medical examination and care while the traditional/spiritual midwife was arrested and taken to State CID Yaba for further investigation.
Police investigation later revealed that the deceased died while being rushed to the hospital and not in the church as alleged by the deceased mother. It was also discovered that the mother of the deceased has sent the late Seun out of her house following a misunderstanding. The late Seun, it was gathered later found a succor to stay in the church when she has no other place to live.
Upon completion of investigation, the police sent the case file to the state Ministry of justice on the 15th of May, 2020, to seek legal advice.
In his response, Mrs. Adeyemi, on the 8th day of June, 2020 issued a legal advice, suggesting that the accused persons were not guilty of murder charge. The legal advice which was sighted by Investigation Media contradicts the medial trial which has put the spiritual mother in a bad light.
Marked LJP/HOM/2020/88/6, THE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE VS EVELYN OWOLEKE, BOLA WAHAB, FEMI ADISA: CR 1063/2020, the state’s Justice department advised that “After carefully considering the facts available in the duplicate case file, this office is of the view that facts available do not disclose a prima facie case of murder contrary to section 222 of the criminal law Ch. C17. Vol. 3 Laws of Lagos state, 2015, against the suspect Evely Owoleke, Bola Wahab and Femi Adisa”
The case according to findings is listed in court on Wednesday at the Lagos state Magistrate Court 2, Ogba where the judge will decide whether to free the prophetess and her co accusers or convict them.
