REPORT ON THE WORKING VISIT OF THE AREA COMMANDER TO EDUCATIONAL AND COMMUNITY STAKEHOLDERS IN ADO-ODO/OTA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

INTRODUCTION

On Friday, 29th May 2026, the Area Commander, Sango-Ota Area Command, ACC Adesanya Lawrence, alongside his operational team, embarked on a strategic working visit to key educational and community stakeholders within Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, Ogun State.

The visit was aimed at strengthening the existing synergy between the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), educational authorities, community development stakeholders, and residents toward enhancing security and safety, particularly in the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) and the implementation of the Safe Schools Initiative across the Local Government Area.

The Area Commander was accompanied by the Divisional Officer, Ota Division, the Head of Operations, and the Head of Intelligence of the Area Command.

VISIT TO THE ZONAL EDUCATION OFFICE

The Area Commander and his team first visited Mrs. Ayoola, the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, where extensive deliberations were held on strategies and modalities for the effective implementation of the National Policy on Safety, Security and Violence-Free Schools across the Local Government.

During the discussion, the Area Commander emphasized the urgent need for proactive security measures in schools, particularly those located in vulnerable and rural communities. He stressed the importance of integrating host communities into the security architecture of schools to ensure effective intelligence gathering, surveillance, monitoring, and rapid response to emerging threats.

The Area Commander further highlighted the necessity of identifying vulnerable schools across the Local Government Area for adequate security attention and monitoring. Consequently, he requested from the Zonal Education Officer a comprehensive list of all vulnerable schools alongside their respective host communities to aid strategic security planning and deployment.

The Zonal Education Officer commended the initiative and acknowledged the importance of strengthening collaboration between educational authorities and security agencies in ensuring a safe learning environment for pupils, teachers, and educational facilities.

VISIT TO THE EDUCATION SECRETARY, ADO-ODO/OTA LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Thereafter, the Area Commander and his team proceeded to the office of the Education Secretary, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Education Authority, Alaja Badmus, where discussions centered on the urgent need to improve security consciousness and proactive safety measures within public primary schools across the Local Government Area.

The Area Commander reiterated the importance of maintaining heightened vigilance, particularly in vulnerable schools and rural communities that may be exposed to security threats. He emphasized the need for school administrators to remain on red alert and maintain close collaboration with security agencies and community stakeholders.

In his response, the Education Secretary described the visit as timely and highly commendable, noting that the 135 public primary schools within the Local Government Area require enhanced security attention, especially those situated in remote and vulnerable areas.

Following the meeting, the Area Commander and his team were formally introduced to Headmasters and Headmistresses who were present for an official meeting at the Secretariat.

The Area Commander addressed the gathering extensively on the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring the safety and protection of schools. He urged school administrators to work closely with all security agencies, host communities, Parents’ Teachers’ Associations (PTAs), community leaders, and relevant stakeholders to strengthen school security mechanisms.

Furthermore, the Area Commander enlightened the participants on the statutory mandates of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, particularly the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), crisis management, intelligence gathering, and the implementation of the Safe Schools Initiative Project.

He assured the educational stakeholders of the Corps’ readiness and commitment to tackling emerging security threats through strategic collaboration, surveillance, intelligence sharing, and rapid response mechanisms. He also emphasized the commitment and support of the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, and the Ogun State Commandant, CC Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo, toward enhancing security architecture around schools and public infrastructure within the State.

VISIT TO THE DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AND COOPERATIVE

The Area Commander and his team also paid a courtesy and working visit to the Director of Community Development and Cooperative Department, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, Mrs. Adekunle Aderonke.

During the engagement, the Area Commander discussed extensively the critical roles of communities in the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure as well as educational facilities within their localities. He described community members as indispensable stakeholders in addressing the prevailing security challenges affecting schools and public infrastructure.

The Area Commander further stressed the importance of community participation in intelligence gathering, information sharing, vigilance, and sensitization efforts. He solicited the support and cooperation of the Department in mobilizing and sensitizing various Community Development Associations (CDAs) and Community Development Committees (CDCs) on their responsibilities toward safeguarding public facilities and promoting peaceful coexistence.

He also assured the Director of the Corps’ readiness to partner with communities through continuous sensitization programs, security advocacy campaigns, and proactive engagements aimed at improving public safety.

The Director expressed appreciation to the Area Commander and his team for the visit and commended the proactive initiatives of the NSCDC in promoting community-based security strategies. She further pledged the Department’s support and cooperation with the Corps whenever required.

GUEST LECTURE AT IYONU OLUWA AREA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE GENERAL MEETING

In continuation of the engagements, the Area Commander and his team honored an invitation to serve as Guest Lecturer at the General Meeting of the Iyonu Oluwa Area Community Development Committee (CDC).

During his lecture, the Area Commander educated community members on the importance of proactive security consciousness and the need to leverage modern technology and community-driven strategies in securing lives, property, schools, and public infrastructure within their environment.

He emphasized that meaningful community development can only thrive in an atmosphere of unity, cooperation, and collective responsibility. The Area Commander further encouraged community members to sustain developmental projects through unity of purpose, financial contributions, and active participation in community affairs.

Practical security tips and preventive measures were shared with participants, while members were encouraged to regard schools and Critical National Assets and Infrastructure within their communities as collective properties that require adequate protection and monitoring.

The Area Commander also informed participants of the passion and commitment of the Ogun State Commandant, CC Remilekun Omolade Ekundayo, toward fostering stronger relationships between the Corps and community members across the State.

At the end of the engagement, the Area Commander and his team appreciated the leadership and members of the Iyonu Oluwa Area CDC for the invitation, warm reception, and commitment toward community development and security partnership.

GENERAL ASSESSMENT

The working visit was successful and impactful, as it further strengthened inter-agency collaboration, educational-security partnerships, and community-based security cooperation within Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.

The engagements provided strategic opportunities for stakeholders to deliberate on practical approaches toward improving school safety, protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, community participation in security management, and the implementation of preventive security measures against emerging threats.

CONCLUSION

The working visit by the Area Commander, ACC Adesanya Lawrence, and his team significantly reinforced the existing synergy between the NSCDC, educational authorities, community development stakeholders, and residents within Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.

The visit also reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps toward ensuring the protection of schools, public infrastructure, and communities through proactive security measures, intelligence-driven operations, community partnership, and sustained stakeholder engagement.
