The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described former president of the Country, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as a patriotic Nigerian and one of the luckiest and most blessed human beings of his time.

Prince Dapo Abiodun, who made this known at the staging of a play, Àrèmú in honour of the former president who clock 83 on Thursday, noted that Chief Obasanjo served the Country, his people and the world meritoriously. He added that his administration will continue to support ideas like the stage play in the State.

“We will throw our weight behind this kind of things happening in our State. Baba continues to be a rare breed. He is unarguably one of the most patriotic of all Nigerians. Baba is also one of the luckiest and one of the most blessed human beings that we all know,” he said.

Abiodun, who also said that Chief Obasanjo was a man with lots of contradictions, added that his life was a blessing, not only to his tiny town of Ibogun, but also to the Country as a whole.

“Baba served this Country, and he served it very well and I dare to say that Baba’s life is a bundle of contradictions. If you look at the life of someone who was born of very humble parentage…in a place where if not for baba, you would not find it on the map… ‘Ibogun! Where on Earth is Ibogun?’ But from that tiny Ibogun and that humble parentage, from being that person who went to school and they asked, ‘What is your father’s name?’ but he walked out, because he thought it was wrong for anyone to ask him to say his father’s name…to someone who rose to wine and dine with kings. That itself is a contradiction,” he said

Abiodun, while noting that God allowed the former president to go through the crucible because He was preparing him for a higher call, added that God allows his children to go through such times, so they can later have the cause to testify to His goodness.

“He was Head of State at 39. He left, and twenty years later, he came back after God had taken him through the crucible. This is another lesson that we must learn in life, that at times, God takes us through the crucible for a reason because he is preparing us for a higher call. God took Baba through the crucible. Baba was wrongly locked up, but God wanted him to take time out and prepare for a larger role in life. Twenty years afterwards, Baba became the president of this Country,” he said.
