Addressing journalists during a press briefing, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through intelligence-driven policing, proactive operations and rapid response to criminal activities across the state.
According to the police, a total of 10 suspects were arrested during the period under review, while several dangerous exhibits were recovered, including a double-barrel pump-action gun, three AK-47 rifles, two submachine guns (SMGs), one revolver, one short pistol, one fabricated pistol, three locally made pistols, six magazines, 42 rounds of live ammunition, one dummy gun, a TVS motorcycle, an axe and other weapons.
Kidnap Attempt Foiled, Four Suspects Killed in Ejigbo Shootout
One of the major breakthroughs recorded involved the foiling of a planned kidnap operation on May 24, 2026, at about 9:30 p.m., near Jakande Estate Gate in Ejigbo.
Police said operatives acted on credible intelligence concerning a notorious kidnapping gang allegedly targeting a businessman in Lagos. The gang reportedly specialised in kidnapping wealthy individuals and was said to have travelled into Lagos to execute criminal operations.
The police identified the alleged gang leader as Ifeanyi, also known as “Ifeko,” who was reportedly linked to previous kidnapping operations, including ties to a gang neutralised at Ladipo International Spare Parts Market in 2024.
Operatives reportedly confronted the suspects at the scene, leading to a gun duel after the gang allegedly opened fire on officers. Four suspects were neutralised, while another escaped with gunshot injuries.
Recovered items included a Toyota Sienna vehicle, an AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 25 rounds of ammunition, an SMG rifle with one magazine loaded with 12 rounds, a Toyota Corolla key and a Lexus vehicle key.
An inspector sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg during the exchange and is currently receiving treatment. Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and other accomplices.
Driver Arrested in Ibadan Over Stolen Toyota Hiace Bus
In another operation on May 24, police arrested 57-year-old Akintayo Wasiu in Ibadan, Oyo State, over the theft of a Toyota Hiace Space Bus.
Investigations revealed that the suspect, employed as the vehicle’s driver, allegedly stole the bus, relocated to Ibadan, altered the vehicle documents and changed his phone number to avoid arrest.
Police said the suspect confessed to the crime after being tracked and apprehended with the stolen vehicle.
Alleged Cult Leader Nabbed, Firearm Recovered in Igando
On May 23, operatives investigating cult-related activities stormed the residence of 31-year-old Waliu Olaleye, described as a suspected leader of the Aiye confraternity group in Igando.
During a search of the apartment, police recovered a locally made double-barrel pistol hidden inside the ceiling. Authorities said the suspect provided useful information to investigators, while efforts continue to arrest other fleeing gang members.
Suspect Arrested Over ₦1bn PMS Theft
Police also announced the arrest of 38-year-old Chibuzor Mogbo over the alleged theft of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) valued at ₦1,028,825,520, following a complaint lodged by MEA Energy.
After nearly two weeks of investigation supported by intelligence gathering and technical tracking, the suspect was arrested in Delta State, where he allegedly fled.
The Command said the suspect confessed to the offence and helped investigators recover cash and assets worth over ₦300 million linked to the case. Police are still searching for a second suspect, Jessica Anyincha, who remains at large.
Police Uncover Alleged Self-Kidnap Scheme
The Command also uncovered an alleged staged kidnapping plot involving a scrap dealer, Adamu Abdullahi, who was initially reported missing on May 19.
Investigators said a video later emerged showing the supposed victim being assaulted while kidnappers demanded a ₦1.5 million ransom from his employer.
However, detectives reportedly noticed inconsistencies in the footage and found no physical injuries on the alleged victim upon his return.
Further interrogation allegedly revealed that the kidnapping was staged with the assistance of Adelowo Olalekan Akorede, Yusuf Lukman, and another suspect still on the run.
Police said the suspects intended to fraudulently obtain money from the victim’s employer. The victim also reportedly admitted diverting ₦490,000 previously entrusted to him for business, which has since been recovered.

Police operatives responding to reports of robbery activities around Ikola on May 24 recovered a locally fabricated Beretta pistol concealed on a TVS motorcycle abandoned by fleeing suspects.
Authorities said the hoodlums escaped on sighting the police, while efforts are ongoing to track them down.

The Lagos State Police Command said the recoveries and arrests underscore its resolve to dismantle criminal networks, rid the state of illegal firearms and improve public safety.
CP Fatai assured residents that criminal elements would find no safe haven in Lagos and urged the public to continue supporting law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information.
