The Buhari – Osinbajo Infrastructural Revolution
In 1970, the Yakubu Gowon-led government of Nigeria planned to connect Bonny Island to the mainland in Rivers state with 3 bridges and a connecting 39km road.
That plan was abandoned till 2017 when the Buhari – Osinbajo admin approved 120 billion naira for the project, which was counterfunded by FG and the NLNG. Today, the Bodo-Bonny bridge is standing – after 50 years!
Before now, the island which hosts the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) and other oil companies had only boats and helicopters as the only means of transportation.
The Buhari – Osinbajo infrastructural revolution which took off in 2015 may have been capital-intensive and slow, owing to Nigeria’s enormous infrastructure deficit, however, Nigerians are already reaping its gains and will reap even more of it in months and years to come.
