We Must Build On Whatever We Have Achieved In The Past- Confrence 57 Chairman, Olowa

The Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government and Chairman of Conference 57 in Lagos State, Hon. Sesan Olowa, has stressed the importance of Continuity on Grassroots development, and thereby enjoined colleagues to ensure that they build on what they have achieved in the past in whatever project each Local Government must have outlined for any execution in their community.

Speaking at the Conference 57 Seminar held on Wednesday, at the Radisson Hotel GRA Ikeja Lagos.

He expressed further, that the vital role of local government leadership in supporting the Themes Plus Agenda, and governance of Lagos State towards promoting the grassroots development.

Hon. Abdullahi Olowa emphasized that the role of a local government chairman goes beyond a given administration, highlighting the importance of collaboration and shared learning among local leaders.

“The role of the chairman is to coordinate the affairs of the conference and to support the governance of the state,” he said. “This platform also gives us the opportunity to learn from one another and improve service delivery across our local governments.”

Hon. Olowa described how Ibeju-Lekki Local Government is already benefiting from several government initiatives, and the dividends of Democracy.

Also, saying that it is not over yet, because more developments are on the way.

According to him, government is a continuous process, and his administration remains committed to enhancing sectors such as health, environment, and education.

“Whatever we have achieved in the past, we must build on it,” he noted. “If we built two schools before, we must now aim to double that because the local government is expanding rapidly. We are committed to driving sustainable development in Ibeju-Lekki.”

On the subject of education, Olowa said his administration has a clear and focused plan. He stressed the ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure in public schools, support less-privileged students, and equip them with modern vocational and digital skills.

“Our plan for education is very simple — improve infrastructure, support the less privileged, and train students in new, relevant skills,” he added.

The Chairman also acknowledged the collective efforts of all 57 local government and local council development area (LCDA) chairmen across Lagos to ensure every eligible resident obtains their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), reinforcing the importance of civic responsibility and political participation.

“Every local government chairman is working to ensure that residents in their councils get their PVCs. It’s a priority because it strengthens democracy,” he said.

Hon. Olowa’s remarks underscore his administration’s vision for inclusive growth and continuous improvement, positioning Ibeju-Lekki as a model for other local governments across Lagos State.
