BANK BUILDING COLLAPSED IN LAGOS, KILLED ONE LABOURER

A labourer, Ezekiel Ajibola (35), was Saturday night killed after a Keystone Bank building at Palmgrove, collapsed in Lagos.

The storey building located along Ikorodu Road, was said to be undergoing renovation when balcony caved in. It was learnt the incident occurred around 7:20pm.

Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Police, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LABSCA) and fire service have been deployed to the scene to extricate the deceased labourer and cordon the premises.

As the the of filing in this report the body of the tricenarian bricklayer is at Pedro Police station for incident reports from Officials of the bank and the building engineer. The body will be deposited at the mortuary tonight as the police await relatives of the deceased.

The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu, has condemned situations that may lead to the unfortunate incident. The Mayor said the incident might have been due to substandard building materials or failing to abide by safety measures of construction sites as these are reasons of most building collapse as stated by Lagos State Government. Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu had directed men of Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps attached to his council to ensure all occupants of the building are evacuated tonight to prevent negative eventualities.
