GRATITUDE, PURPOSE & PRAISE:OGH
39th Annual Thanksgiving of Lagos State Health Workers Fellowship Celebrates Faith and Service

In an atmosphere overflowing with gratitude, praise, and spiritual reflection, the Lagos State Health Service Commission Workers and Patients Christian Fellowship Chaplaincy held its 39th Annual Thanksgiving Service at the Orile Agege General Hospital. The vibrant celebration, themed “My Purpose in His Kingdom,” was a heartfelt reminder of the divine calling that underpins the work of healthcare professionals across the state.

The event brought together a distinguished gathering of dignitaries, medical professionals, spiritual leaders, and members of the Christian Fellowship across public secondary health institutions in Lagos. Their unified purpose was to honor God’s faithfulness through the years, while reaffirming their commitment to serving both the body and the spirit of every Lagosian who passes through their care.

A Gathering of Excellence and Spiritual Dedication
Representing Her Excellency, the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, was Mrs. Odunbaku, who received a warm welcome from the Fellowship. Her presence underscored the unwavering support of the First Lady towards faith-based initiatives in healthcare and her passion for community well-being.
The event was also graced by the Chairman of the Lagos State Health Service Commission, Dr. (Mrs.) Atinuke Onayiga, the Permanent Secretary of Health District 1, Dr. (Mrs.) Bankole, and the incoming Chairman of Orile Agege LCDA, Hon. Akinola Idowu, among many other notable personalities.
Dr. Sola Pitan, delivering a rousing welcome on behalf of the absent Permanent Secretary of the Health Service Commission, Dr. Benjamin Eniayewun, stirred hearts with a powerful reflection on the essence of divine purpose in professional service. “There is something God has placed in each and every one of us to do,” he said. “Even waking up each morning is a divine sign—we must ask ourselves, why did God wake me up today?” His words resounded as a spiritual challenge to all attendees to embrace their work not just as duty, but as ministry.

He also acknowledged the guiding influence and unwavering support of Dr. Eniayewun, whose leadership and mentorship have significantly shaped the commission’s progress. The resounding applause for past and present Medical Directors, spiritual leaders, and former executives of the Fellowship was a testament to a legacy of faith and excellence in service.
Voices of Leadership and Legacy
In her welcome address, Mrs. Peters Adeyemi, President of the Lagos State Health Service Commission Workers and Patients Christian Fellowship, expressed deep gratitude to God and all dignitaries in attendance. She celebrated the power of unity in Christ among healthcare professionals and prayed for continued grace and divine presence in the lives of all attendees.

Addressing the audience with warmth and conviction, she said, “You have come to celebrate with God, not with us, and celebrations will never depart from your lives in Jesus’ name.” Her spirit-filled words moved the congregation and set the tone for a powerful and purpose-driven gathering.
In her keynote speech, Dr. Atinuke Onayiga, the Commission Chairman, spoke with spiritual clarity and leadership insight. Reflecting on the theme “My Purpose in His Kingdom,” she reminded attendees that the foundation of the Fellowship was divinely laid. “It was God Himself who established this Chaplaincy,” she declared. “We must not destroy it—we must build upon it with reverence and purpose.”
She charged all healthcare workers to approach their roles with passion and spiritual intent, warning against complacency. “We must do our work with zeal, showing that we love the Lord with all our heart and love our neighbor as ourselves,” she said. Her words served as both a charge and a challenge to the entire health service workforce to never lose sight of the divine calling behind their daily labor.
A Celebration of Legacy and Looking Ahead
Throughout the event, joyful songs of praise, spiritual reflections, and testimonies were shared. The 132-year-old General Hospital Lagos, the premier hospital in Nigeria, was also celebrated for its enduring legacy in public health and Christian service.

Special recognition was given to former leaders, such as Dr. Olugbenga Oyekan, Dr. Olawale Adegbite, and Mrs. Ayebola, whose steadfast devotion to the Christian Fellowship has ensured that its spiritual torch continues to burn brightly.

There was also a spirit of anticipation as the Fellowship looks forward to its 40th anniversary next year—a major milestone that promises an even grander celebration of faith, service, and purpose.
Faith in Action
The 39th Thanksgiving Service of the Lagos State Health Service Commission’s Workers and Patients Christian Fellowship was more than a ceremonial gathering. It was a divine convocation—a reminder that healthcare is not merely a profession, but a calling; a ministry rooted in love, compassion, and the service of humanity under God’s direction.
As the songs of praise rose and heartfelt prayers were offered, it became clear that the spiritual heartbeat of Lagos State’s healthcare workers is alive and well. Their mission continues—not just in hospitals and clinics, but in the Kingdom purpose that guides every hand that heals and every heart that serves.
